With The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, players will not only be challenged to survive Butcher Bay, but will also engage in a new single-player experience and, for the first time in the Riddick universe, take action in intense multi-player combat. The game introduces the ominous Merc-ship Dark Athena, which sits silent like a marauding spider, awaiting helpless prey in the dark reaches of the galaxy. Players must face a large, bloodthirsty operation led by the dreaded Captain Revas and her slaves-turned-controllable combat drones, storm though death-defying events and fight fierce enemies in a battle of malice and gore.

  • DEATHMATCH (up to 12 players) - All against all. Weapons, ammo and power-ups are scattered around the levels. Some smaller levels do not have the most powerful weapons on them for balancing purposes. Ulaks are also not included. Supports up to 12 players. Some smaller maps support less than 12 players, ie 4-8.
  • TEAM DEATHMATCH (up to 12 players) - As above, but the players are split up into red and blue teams. Supports up to 12 players, but some maps are for smaller teams, as with Deathmatch.
  • CAPTURE THE FLAG (up to 12 players) - Red and Blue teams try to penetrate each others’ base and take their flags. Weapons, ammo and power-ups are distributed similarly to Deathmatch, but with other CTF unique maps as well as some Deathmatch maps. Supports up to 12 players, but some maps are for smaller teams as with Deathmatch.
  • BUTCHER BAY RIOT (12 players) - 12 players split up into teams of Guards, Prisoners and Mercenaries. There is one powercell in the level. Capture the powercell and return it to the capture point in the opposing teams base to win the round (match can be won with 3 or 5 rounds depending on settings). Players buy weapons before the round starts. Winning rewards them with more cash, as does killing the opposing players. All weapons can be purchased. All maps support 12 players.
  • ARENA (up to 8 players) - Either 1 on 1 or teams of 2 on 2 (default setting is 2 vs 2 but can be changed in advanced options) . Winning team/individual stays on. Other teams watch as spectators. All weapons are in the player’s inventory when the game is started. Supports up to 8 players.
  • PITCH BLACK (up to 6 players) - Play as a Mercenary with up to 5 others and hunt down Riddick. When you kill Riddick you become him. All levels are sheathed in darkness, with only weapons and flashlights to see by. Riddick starts in the darkness, the Mercenaries start in a lit room containing shotguns, SMG’s and Assault Rifles. Drop into the darkness to hunt down Riddick. Riddick is armed with the Ulaks and his unique nightvision/eyeshine. The more powerful the Mercenaries weapons are, the weaker the power of the flashlight is.

General Update - PS2 Price Cuts to $99.99, from $129.99

I think we've all been following the GDC quite too much, but with the PS2 price cuts coming soon, it will be a total disaster for those vendors stuck with thousands of ps2's. We never know though, Sony may be providing serious price protection to make sure that their own distributors don't go down in flames.

PS2 software is fading, with the bulk of concentration distributed solely to the ps3 and psp. PSP software is still pretty weak and with many buyers still looking for hackable psp's, revenue is sure to drop even more as June rolls around. I might just buy a new PS2 for no reason just to buy all the great software that has dropped to nearly pennies on the dollar.

-from wikipedia-
Demon's Souls is a console role-playing game from From Software exclusively for the PlayStation 3. With a dark fantasy theme, the player will set off into the heart of Boletaria, a kingdom of warriors that was destroyed after the appearance of beasts and demons. The game is described to be a spiritual successor to the King's Field series that was on the PlayStation 1 and 2.

Demon's Souls is an open-ended dark fantasy action RPG. Players are able to customize their own characters, setting the name, gender, hair style and others. Players face off against huge beasts many times the size of the character, making use of a variety of different weapons. The gameplay alters depending on what type of weapon the player wields.

Demon's Souls is set in the Kingdom of Boletaria. The hub world that takes place between missions is the Nexus, a small, town-like area where the player can interact with NPCs, shop, and store equipment. The actual game world is divided into five stages, accessible via portals. The first is Boletaria Palace, the ruins of the castle where Boletaria's ruler once lived. Second is the Stonefang Tunnel, a dwarven mine that was corrupted and overrun by goblin-like creatures. Third is the Tower of Latria, a dark, abandoned prison tower whose halls are now stalked by Cthulhu-inspired guards. Next is the Shrine of Storms, a cliffside ruin infested by the undead and besieged by flying creatures known as Storm Beasts. Last is the Valley of Defilement, a deep gorge in the Earth full of poisonous leeches, trolls, and sheer drops. These locations can be explored in any order by the player.

You can choose between ten different classes of characters, each with different starting attributes:

Knight: Southern knights of Boletaria, strong and heavy armored.
Priest: Warriors of the priesthood, they have faith in God and use miracles.
Thief: Work under the cover of darkness, sneaking up behind enemies.
Magician: Masters of magic, poor physical offensive and defensive skills.
Temple Knight: Strong warriors that also use defensive miracles to their advantage.
Soldier: Skilled in combat, able to handle many types of weapons.
Wanderer: Low armored but fast and agile, skilled with swords.
Barbarian: Uncivilized people not wearing any armor, physically strong.
Royal: Aristocrats users of offensive magic, starts with valuable magic rings.
Hunter: Specialized in outdoor activities, skilled with bows, light on armor.

Online features:
  • Co-Operative up to three player can team up to play levels.
  • Messaging/Educational mode, players can leave hints and advice in the game to help other players.
  • Competitive, a player can force into another gamers adventure and play as an opponent.

Weekly Recap - March 2009 - Week 4

Aside from the final four this week, another tremendous week has passed. The late Aaron Spelling's estate has been listed on the market today as the largest and most expensive home in California, weighing in at $150 million. The dow this week rallied and we're hoping to see signs of a 8,000 point breakthrough next week, giving some light to such a dismal economy.

The final week of march has brought us tons of new games, with trigger heart exelica for ps2 still leading the bunch. DS sales have picked up because of last week's Super Robot Wars K. PS3 sales have been put on slow-motion, and 360 has just been stagnant; not even halo wars can breathe any life into the unit. Maybe death smiles may, but I highly doubt it's going to be a signficiant financial mover in comparison to grand theft auto.

Next week has nothing significant, except for the official release of Guitar Hero Metallica SAS. Haven't we all had enough of guitar hero? Now that red octane has bled the series to death, DJ Hero is next, I wonder how that will turn out.

Pre-Order Update - Agarest Senki Best / Record of Agarest War Best PS3 - 3/28/09

Release Date: 3/28/2009
UPC: 4995857090549
Genre: Strategy
Company: Compile
Version: Japan
Price - $49.99
-from wikipedia-

Record of Agarest War is a strategy role-playing game for the PlayStation 3 video game console.[1] The game is a collaboration between Idea Factory, Red Entertainment and Compile Heart.[2] It was released in Japan on September 27, 2007, then a Korean version was released in South Korea on May 25, 2008. An updated port of the game is scheduled to be released in Japan for the Xbox 360 on November 27th, 2008.

The story progresses through various points plotted on a map. By visiting each point, the player has to battle the creatures, complete a quest, visit a town or go through a conversation to advance through the storyline and open up more points.

Fighting plays out like a strategic RPG where each character has his/her own set of moves, but by moving each character to an appropriate square, you can chain characters together and pull off combos. After each round of combat, each character will regenerate AP and accumulate SP points. When enough SP points have been accumulated, characters can unleash special attacks.

The game includes dating sim elements through its "Soul Breed" system which allows the player to create a new character by pursuing a relationship with a female character.

Can you guide the courageous cat, Major Minor, through this whimsical musical adventure? Brought to you by Masaya Matsuura, the visionary creator of the music game genre, and drawn to life by renowned artist Rodney Alan Greenblat, Major Minor's Majestic March is an extravaganza of music and color unlike anything you've ever experienced!
  • AKA Major Minor's Majestic March
  • Created by Parappa the Rapper designer Masaya Matsuura and famous artist Rodney Alan Greenblat.
  • Major Minor’s Majestic March uses the Wii Remote as a mace (a form of baton used exclusively by drum majors) that the drum major, Major Minor, uses to keep tempo, recruit new band members and pick up valuable items. While marching through eight whimsical locations that contain various hair-raising events, Major Minor strives to create the most impressive parade ever. Players can add up to 15 different instruments to their dynamic procession—including brass, woodwinds, and percussion—to alter its composition and resulting performance. Players are then scored on how well their band maintains its rhythm and manages obstacles that could otherwise throw the procession into disarray. The band keeps tempo to more than 25 popular marching band songs from around the world, composed into original medleys for each stage.
  • John Merchant, marketing manager of Majesco Europe has been quoted saying about this game, “There’s something magical about marching bands that truly captures the imagination. The concept of leading a virtual band that’s reliant on your musicianship is a perfect fit for the interactive capabilities of Wii. The combined musical and artistic superiority of Matsuura and Greenblat make them a natural choice to deliver this innovative title exclusively to the Wii audience.”

Pre-Order Update - DSi Matte Black US Version - Now Open

With retailers nationwide scrambling for the DSi american launch, supply is cut short and price is driven much above retail values, for those who don't line up and pre-order immediately, prices will be sure to drive north toward the upper 100's range during the first few weeks of release.

Even distributors are selling for much beyond retail, signaling that second hand and third hand retailers are going to pay well above retail. Most likely this will only happen within the first week or so. Once demand is satisfied, we are sure to see prices finally inch toward retail. Pre-orders for the Matte Black are open today and are priced at $189.99 and will ship on or around 4/5, well above retail, unfortunately, but we do expect prices to drop as additional supplies surface within a few weeks.
