Meowth (ニャース Nyāsu?, Nyarth in original Japanese language versions) are known as the "Scratchcat Pokémon," and resembles the Maneki Neko. They adore shiny objects, especially coins, so they constantly search for them. They are only active at night, so they withdraw their claws and search through the streets for dropped change, while also protecting their territory. When they find some, both their eyes and the coins on their heads glow, and they add the coins to their personal collections. They are also used to make money for their trainers with their "Pay Day" attack. It also appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a Pokémon that comes out of the Poké Ball item.

The anime features a special Meowth that works for Team Rocket. He is characterized by his ability to speak like a human being.

Magikarp (コイキング Koikingu?, Koiking) is a commonly found Pokémon that can survive in rivers, lakes, and oceans. They are also said to be capable of surviving in any body of water, no matter how polluted it may be. Despite its adaptability, the Pokédex states that the Magikarp species has grown weaker over time, and it is the least viable for battling in the series, although many consider Feebas a fierce competitor, the difference being Feebas can learn moves outside its immediate move pool. It eventually evolves into a much more powerful Pokémon, Gyarados. Magikarp in the wild become strong enough to evolve by swimming upstream and attempting to leap up waterfalls (a reference to a Chinese myth in which a carp could become a dragon by leaping over the legendary Dragon Gate).

Magikarp is commonly thought of as the weakest Pokémon. They are only able to learn four moves: Splash (does absolutely nothing), Tackle (a weak attack), Flail (which does more damage as Magikarp is more damaged.), and Bounce (the only move that is considered useful when battling.) Magikarp is fairly useless though.

In the anime, Magikarp has appeared several times, most notably as the subject of a running gag in which a salesman attempts to trick Team Rocket into buying Magikarp in various guises. (This man also appears in Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen.) Team Rocket later adopted a Magikarp-shaped submarine.

Magikarp also appear many times in the video games. They can be found in almost any pond, river, lake, or sea. Many trainers have them, along with other weak Water Pokémon like Goldeen or Horsea.

The characters in the Heat the Soul series are directly based upon characters taken from Bleach. As a new installment is released, new characters are added to the character selection. With Heat the Soul 4 set between Shinji Hirako's introduction and the entrance into Hueco Mundo, "normal" characters originate from The Arrancar arc and later, while "EX" forms, as they're known in the game, are from the Soul Society: The Rescue arc.

To avoid confusion, all characters will be referred to as they are in the most recent installment in the series, Heat the Soul 5. It also appears that most (if not all) characters can change forms during battle. For example, Hollow Ichigo and Ichigo can start out a match with shikai and end it with bankai when they have enough spiritual pressure.
